Kemarin Rabu (2/3) waktu setempat, iPad 2 diluncurkan di San Fransisco. Menurut bos Apple Steve Jobs, iPad 2 ini merupakan produk yang melambangkan langkah besar dengan ‘rancangan yang sepenuhnya baru’. Seperti yang diberitakan oleh Daily Mail beberapa minggu sebelumnya, produk tersebut lebih tipis, lebih ringan, dan dua kali lebih cepat dari sebelumnya.

Chipnya disebut A5 dengan dual core processor yang membuat Apple iPhone 4 berkemampuan tinggi setara laptop. Grafiknya disebut-sebut sembilan kali lebih cepat dibandingkan seri sebelumnya. Ada yang lebih istimewa lagi dari alat ini. Dengan tebal 8.8mm, Apple iPhone 4 makin tipis 33 persen dibandingkan sebelumnya, bahkan lebih tipis dari iPhone 4.

Meski beratnya hanya 1.3 pon (sebelumnya 1.5 pon), daya tahan baterainya bisa sampai 10 jam. Mode standby bisa mencapai lebih dari satu bulan sebelum perlu di’cas’ lagi. iPad tersedia dalam warna hitam dan putih. Dengan sistem operasi yang telah diperbarui yaitu IOS5, harganya tak jauh berbeda dari sebelumnya, berkisar 499 dolar hingga 829 dolar.

Memang alat ini tidak menyediakan memory card slot atau USB port dan tidak flash support, namun Anda akan dihibur dengan sejumlah aplikasi baru seperti movie editing dan uploading video clip. Ada juga alat musik virtual seperti grand piano, drums, dan gitar. Layarnya 9.7 inci, 1024x768 LCD, prosesor 1.2 GHz Apple A5, RAM 512 MB, cukup membuat Anda tergoda.

Menurut Jobs, hal yang lebih menarik lagi adalah Smart Cover yang bisa dilipat sehingga jadi sandaran iPad. Saat ditutup, Smart Cover otomatis membuat iPad dalam mode sleep dan iPad ‘bangun’ saat covernya dibuka. Ditambah lagi magnet, sehingga dapat ditutup dengan pas, Smart Cover dibanderol dengan harga 39 dolar untuk polyutethane atau kulit seharga 69 dolar.
